Tattooing is a form of body modification where a design is created by inserting ink, dyes and pigments, either indelible or temporary, into the dermis layer of the skin to change the pigment. Tattoos fall into three broad categories: purely decorative (no specific meaning); symbolic (with a special meaning for the user); pictorial (display of a specific person or item). Brought to Europe from Polynesia at the beginning 19th century sea routes, it was originally largely restricted to maritime use and was the domain of men only. Later In the 20th century, its use was more widespread and extended to women. To the end In the 20th century, it went through many stigmas of tattoo culture and moved into the realm of fashion accessories for men and women.<\/p>

Because it requires breaking the skin barrier, tattooing carries health risks, including infection and allergic reactions.<\/p>

The tattoo can be uncomfortable to break out depending on the area and can cause the person to pass out.
